Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of essential oils does Maple Hill Naturals use? We use only therapeutic grade essential oils!

Do I need to use anything after I use the shampoo & conditioning bar? Most people report not needing to follow the shampoo & conditioning bar with anything on their hair. However, some people love following with a simple vinegar rinse. In a cup, you mix 10 parts water to 1 part apple cider vinegar and let it sit for a few minutes. Then you rinse out all the vinegar and can follow with another shampoo if you prefer.

Is your palm oil sustainably obtained? Yes, all products used by Maple Hill Naturals are sustainably obtained and cruelty free.

Are any of your products tested on animals? We guarantee that none of our products and supplies have ever been tested on animals.

Is your Laundry Powder cloth diaper and sensitive skin safe? As cloth diaper users ourselves, we strive to formulate all of our products to be 100% baby safe! We took extra care with our laundry powder to eliminate harmful chemicals and provide a product that is great for even diapers! On a side note, our Maple Hill Dryer Balls were originally made to help dry all of our cloth diapers! We also made our Shepherd's friend to be a cloth diaper safe rash cream as well! Thanks for the question and let us know if you have any more!

How long will a bottle of C.B. Rowan's Beard Oil, Pre-Shave Oil or Aftershave last if unopened? C.B. Rowan's Beard Oil's, Pre-Shave Oil's and Aftershave are all natural products which through their unique blend of essential and conditioning oils are designed to last indefinitely unopened in a cool dry place.  Over time the effects of heat and cold may change the color of the oils but they are still ready to use.

Maple Hill Wool Dryer Balls

Do They Work? Our 100% Wool Dryer Balls are naturally colored with no dyes added. They will decrease static cling as well as fluff up clothing. Stop using conventional dryer sheets that are full of harmful chemicals. Our wool dryer balls are 100% reusable and very durable! These balls are made of roving and sometimes have a string of yarn felted to them, but there is no way the wool will come apart after being felted!

How do they work? The dryer balls circulate and separate the clothing and get the warm dry air right down to the core of the laundry load as well as soften your clothes with the gentle friction of the felted wool fibers against your clothing fibers. Use more and your clothes will dry faster and the more money you will save.  In addition, you will no long have to purchase store bought, chemical-filled fabric softeners or dryer sheets.

What if I like the scent conventional sheets give my clothing? We offer many standard scents and for those concerned about chemicals we have wool dryer balls with therapeutic grade essential oil scents.

What is the difference between Jumbo, Extra Large, and Large? Our Jumbo size varies in circumference from 11-13." This is four inches bigger than a tennis ball, much larger than most others you will find and therefore work much better. Extra Large varies in circumference of 9-11″. Large ranges in circumference of 8-9″, about the size of a tennis ball.

How many balls do you recommend? If interested in the large size, it is recommended that you use four for small loads and six+ for large loads to optimize drying time and benefits. If you are interested in the Extra Large size, it is recommended that you use two for small loads, four for medium loads and six+ for large loads. Sometimes for huge loads of towels or diapers I use 12+. Wool dryer balls are so easy to use. Simply leave them in the dryer and use them with every load. Make sure to not over dry your clothes!

How long will they last? The dryer balls will last for 1000's of loads. Occasionally, you may want to recharge them by throwing them in the washer on hot and drying on hot.

Are they cloth diaper safe? Yes and they are a MUST HAVE to get those diapers dry faster!

What color will they be? They are naturally colored so they will be whatever color the sheep is!

Why do I still have static? There are three options to try:

  • Reduce your drying time. Over drying can cause wool to have a charge so make sure you do not over dry.
  • Put some vinegar in the rinse cycle.
  • Wad up a piece of aluminum foil and throw that in the dryer with your wool dryer balls and clothes.
When my dryer balls arrived, they were damp. Is this okay? Yes! This happens sometimes because of the shipping process but will dry in your first load!

Why do they have a sheep smell? Sometimes this too happens in the shipping process and will fade during your first use. You can also set them in the bright sun and that will help as well.

When my dryer balls pill is that bad? No, it is completely normal and may actually help create more surface area to rub gently your clothing but if it bothers you, you can always cut it off!

How are these any better than the plastic (PVC) ones that I got from my local superstore? They are VERY different actually! The conventional plastic ones you see on TV and in your local store are made from plastic and when heated can emit harmful smells that can irritate the lungs. They also do not speed up your drying time as my 100% wool dryer balls do. My wool dryer balls are also much quieter! Plastic dryer balls can also rip and tear some more delicate clothing as my dryer balls do not. I cloth diaper and they are a MUST HAVE to get those diapers dry faster and perfectly safe for cloth diapers!

How are these different from the wool dryer balls made from yarn? We make our dryer balls from wool roving that absorbs better, lasts longer, and is quieter in your dryer!  Also, yarn dryer balls tend to fall apart much faster whereas wool dryer balls will last for years and years!

Does taking the wool from the sheep harm them in any way? Wool is such an amazing fiber, and there is no harm done to the sheep to use it. My dad uses clippers, similar to what we use to cut men's hair but bigger, to shear it off the sheep. He does this in the spring so the sheep are cooler during the summer months, and then it grows back to keep them warm in the winter!

There are wool fibers on my clothes? No worries, just recharge your dryer balls. This is done by washing on hot gentle cycle and drying on hot in the dryer.
